The International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA-Ghana) has called on all political parties to elect women as running mates and support female candidates to secure more seats in the upcoming 2024 elections. FIDA emphasized the need for greater female representation in governance structures and parliamentary positions, citing the persistent underrepresentation of women in Ghana’s parliament. The Federation pointed out that despite the country successfully organizing seven elections since 1992, the proportion of female parliamentarians has consistently fallen below the African average of 21 percent and the UN-recommended 40 percent minimum threshold.
