“TWO CAMEROONIAN WOMEN SCIENTISTS WIN THE PRESTIGIOUS “YOUNG TALENT FOR WOMEN IN SCIENCE” PRIZE FROM L’ORÉAL-UNESCO”

In the heart of rural northern Cameroon, a career in science is a rarity for most women. However, two young women managed to break stereotypes by winning the prestigious “Young Talent for Women in Science” prize from L’Oréal-Unesco. Sabine Adeline Fanta Yadang, 32, doctor in neuroscience, and Hadidjatou Daïrou, 33, doctor in cellular physiology, were praised for their research into the potential of traditional medicinal plants from Cameroon for the treatment of cardiovascular diseases and Alzheimer’s.
